Nicolas Cage's Malibu Home Undergoes Changes After Sinkhole Devastation

New aerial images of Nicolas Cage's Malibu home show significant alterations to the beachfront property three weeks after a large sinkhole caused extensive damage. The sinkhole, which appeared earlier this month, swallowed Cage's driveway, a fence, a portable restroom, and part of the adjacent street.

The home, purchased by the Oscar-winning actor for $10.5 million in 2024, now appears to be undergoing further renovations in the wake of the natural disaster. Photos reveal that the property's tiled patio has been removed, with only remnants of its foundation visible along the exposed bluff. It remains unclear if these changes were a direct response to the sinkhole damage or part of pre-existing renovation plans.

Firefighters discovered the collapsed driveway after responding to a suspected gas main break. The sinkhole, estimated to be approximately 30 feet by 30 feet, is believed to be the result of coastal erosion. The property, situated in a prime oceanfront location, features a rooftop jacuzzi, expansive glass walls, and multiple bedrooms. It was originally built in the 1990s by Jose Liberman, co-founder of Liberman Broadcasting, and remained in his family until its sale to Cage.

Nicolas Cage, born Nicolas Kim Coppola, is a member of a prominent Hollywood family, being the son of academic August Coppola and nephew to director Francis Ford Coppola and actress Talia Shire. His career includes roles in films such as "Moonstruck," "Raising Arizona," "National Treasure," and an Academy Award for "Leaving Las Vegas." In 2023, he legally changed his name to "Nick Cage," inspired by the Marvel character, to establish his own identity separate from his family legacy.

Cage married Riko Shibata in 2021, and they welcomed a daughter, August Francesca, in 2022. He also has two sons, Kal-El and Weston, from previous relationships.
