Nicolas Cage Rushes to Save Malibu Mansion From Expanding Sinkhole
The actor has secured emergency permits to install sandbags and begin excavation work on his oceanfront property.
Nicolas Cage is taking emergency measures to protect his Malibu mansion from a rapidly expanding sinkhole that has devastated the property's driveway and surrounding area. The actor has obtained three permits to address the growing destruction, including an emergency building permit.
These permits will allow for the placement of sandbags to protect the home from ocean waves and coastal erosion, as well as the removal of debris and excavation for soil sampling in preparation for shoring installation. Firefighters first discovered the collapsed driveway in early September after responding to a suspected gas main break. The sinkhole, initially measuring 30 feet by 30 feet, has since expanded to encompass the side of the home and approach the front door.
Mentioned in the report is that Cage purchased the $10.5 million property in 2024. The home, located in a desirable oceanfront setting, features a rooftop deck with a jacuzzi, glass walls, and multiple bedrooms. It was originally built in the 1990s and was previously owned by the late Jose Liberman, co-founder of Liberman Broadcasting, and remained in his family until its sale to Cage.
