Nicolas Cage Declines Further Work with Amazon Over AI Concerns

Nicolas Cage, 62, has stated he will likely not work with Amazon again due to the company's embrace of artificial intelligence. The actor revealed at New York Comic Con that he declined to sign an AI waiver for his role in the Prime Video series "Spider-Noir."

"Amazon is a very AI-friendly company, to the tune of $50 billion invested in OpenAI," Cage said, according to Variety. "I am not an AI-friendly actor, so it's like, connect those dots! I'm not a member of their club. I didn't sign the waiver to let them use AI on Spider-Noir."

Cage, who portrayed Ben Reilly in the series, indicated his decision might preclude future collaborations with the studio. "I'm probably not going to be working with that studio again, but that's okay," he stated.

"Spider-Noir," which premiered in May, marked Cage's first lead television role. The series, based on the Marvel Comics character, is set in an alternate 1930s New York and features Cage as an aging private investigator. The show garnered 11 Emmy nominations and achieved 2.6 billion minutes viewed in its initial six weeks on the streamer, though Amazon announced its cancellation in September.

Cage also expressed interest in collaborating with emerging Gen-Z filmmakers, citing Kane Parsons, director of "The Backrooms," as an example of the new wave of talent he wishes to work with. He described wanting to connect with directors who are creating content "from scratch and by hand."

Looking ahead, Cage teased that his next project will be a season of HBO's crime drama "True Detective."
