The written statement provided by former Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon to police investigating the finances of the Scottish National Party (SNP) will not be released, according to her lawyer, Aamer Anwar.
Anwar, who represents Sturgeon, stated that neither her written statement nor the police interview she participated in will be made public. Sturgeon, after her arrest in 2023, exercised her right to provide a "no comment" during her police interview, subsequently submitting a written statement to officers.
This interview was part of "Operation Branchform," a police investigation that resulted in the conviction of Sturgeon's former husband, Peter Murrell. Murrell, who served as the SNP's chief executive, was found guilty of embezzling over £400,000 from the party and was sentenced to five years and three months in prison in June.
Sturgeon has maintained her innocence, asserting that she was "deceived, misled and betrayed" by Murrell.
