Rapper Nicki Minaj has publicly endorsed Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman, harshly criticizing incumbent Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul. Minaj, whose real name is Onika Maraj-Petty, described Hochul as an “evil woman” and suggested the Democratic Party should forfeit her seat.
Minaj’s comments, posted on X, targeted Hochul over remarks the governor made in May 2024 at the Milken Institute Global Conference. During the conference, Hochul stated that "black kids in the Bronx" were unaware of what computers are. Minaj cited these remarks as a reason for her strong opposition to Hochul, urging Black and Christian voters not to support her.
"HOW MUCH MORE DO YOU NEED TO SEE & HEAR FROM THEM?!! HOW DARE YOU AS BLACK PEOPLE VOTE FOR THIS VILE WICKED CURSE OF A WOMAN? HOW DARE YOU AS CHRISTIANS?! SHE STAYS SILENT ON HARM BEING CAUSED TO THE INNOCENT & THIS IS WHAT SHE THINKS OF YOUR CHILDREN! Vote BLAKEMAN!" Minaj wrote.
Blakeman himself has previously criticized Hochul for the same remarks. During their gubernatorial debate, he accused Hochul of making reprehensible statements about Bronx children and challenged her characterization of his own political associations.
Governor Hochul responded to Minaj’s public statements, advising the rapper to avoid attending rallies hosted by former President Donald Trump, suggesting it was "poisoning her." Hochul made these remarks to reporters while campaigning.
Minaj has been an outspoken supporter of Republican candidates, including former President Trump. Her involvement in this election cycle highlights a notable intersection of celebrity influence and political endorsements in New York's gubernatorial race.
