Nickelodeon star Christy Knowings' cause of death has been confirmed as cardiac arrest, according to a death certificate obtained by People.
The 46-year-old actress suffered an asthma attack on August 7, which led to brain damage. She was subsequently placed on life support at a Los Angeles hospital. Her family later made the decision to remove her from life support, and Knowings passed away on the following Tuesday evening.
The death certificate listed asthma as an underlying condition, with acute hypoxic respiratory failure and status asthmaticus identified as the immediate causes of her death.
Knowings was a familiar face on Nickelodeon, appearing on the sketch comedy series "All That" for three seasons between 1997 and 2000. She portrayed various characters, including Penny Lane and Jessica in the "Whateverrr!!!" sketch alongside Amanda Bynes. She also made appearances on "Sesame Street" with her twin brother, Chris Knowings.
Her representative described Knowings as a "multi-talented lady" who was always creating, professional, and dedicated to her work. Former "All That" co-star Kenan Thompson shared an emotional tribute on Instagram, remembering her as one of the funniest people he knew and sending his condolences to her family.
In a 2019 interview, Knowings reflected on her time on "All That," recalling her favorite character, Gloria Bankhead, an over-the-top Martha Stewart impressionist. She expressed enjoyment in staying in character on set, even when cameras were not rolling.
Knowings' death occurred seven months after the passing of her "All That" co-star Kianna Underwood, who died in a hit-and-run collision in Brooklyn in January at the age of 33. Underwood had appeared in seven episodes of "All That" in 2004 and 2005 and had also acted in the film "The 24 Hour Woman" and voiced a character in the animated movie "Santa Baby!". She also toured with the musical "Hairspray" before seemingly retiring from acting as an adult.
