Nick Young Describes Revenge Plot Against D'Angelo Russell After Cheating Video Leak
The former Lakers player detailed an incident where he targeted Russell's brother after a private video was leaked.
Nick Young has revealed details of a revenge plot against his former Los Angeles Lakers teammate D'Angelo Russell, stemming from a 2016 incident where Russell leaked a video of Young confessing to cheating on his then-fiancée, Iggy Azalea.
Young, speaking on the "Club Shay Shay" podcast with Shannon Sharpe, described his immediate reaction to the leaked video, stating he was enraged and attempted to confront Russell at the arena. Security intervened, preventing a physical altercation. "I had the whole gang with me. It was about to go crazy," Young recalled.
While the direct confrontation with Russell did not occur, Young orchestrated a different form of retribution. He stated that friends of his targeted Russell's brother in the family lounge at the arena. "I still had to get him, so while he was playing, a couple friends of mine had to get his brother in the family lounge and all that. I had to get some type of get-back," Young explained.
When questioned by Sharpe about how such an incident could remain out of the media spotlight, Young attributed it to the environment within the Lakers organization and Los Angeles itself, stating, "It’s the Lakers. There’s a lot of things that go on in LA. LA is no place for the weak."
The fallout from the leaked video significantly damaged the relationship between Young and Russell. Young indicated that their bond was irreparable after what he perceived as a betrayal of team trust. "It was over after that," Young said, reflecting on the lasting impact of the incident on their camaraderie.
