Nick Reiner, 33, has been indicted on two counts of murder for the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner. The indictment, unsealed Wednesday, also includes special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder by means of lying in wait. Reiner pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecutors also allege that Reiner personally used a knife as a deadly weapon in the commission of the crimes. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman described the case as a "profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing."
Nick Reiner is accused of killing his parents, Hollywood director Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife Michele, 70, inside their Brentwood home on December 14, 2025. He fled the residence but was apprehended by authorities hours later.
If convicted, Reiner faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty. Prosecutors have not yet decided whether to seek the death sentence.
Reiner is scheduled to return to court for a pretrial hearing on September 15.
