Nick Bosa Nears Return from Calf Injury, Mike Evans Plays Through Rib Pain

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa is working towards a return by Week 6 after sustaining a calf injury. He is expected to miss his third consecutive game when the 49ers face the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

Bosa believes there is a "pretty darn likely" chance he will be able to play in the 49ers' home game against the Washington Commanders on Oct. 19. If that timeline does not materialize, his return could be pushed to the following week, Oct. 25, against the Atlanta Falcons.

The defensive end strained his calf two weeks ago while warming up for practice. Bosa had not participated in 49ers practices until recently but has shown improvement. He will not travel with the team to Seattle this week, instead remaining in the Bay Area to train with the goal of rejoining practice next week. Bosa has yet to record a sack this season, but the 49ers' coaching staff has been impressed with his performance in the first two games.

Wide receiver Mike Evans is also dealing with an injury, having suffered a rib injury against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3. Despite the broken ribs, Evans played in the team's Week 4 game against the Denver Broncos. General Manager John Lynch indicated that doctors had cleared Evans to return for the Week 5 matchup against the Seahawks, but the receiver opted to play against the Broncos.

Evans participated in limited drills on Friday and did not practice on Thursday. He recorded 76 receiving yards on five receptions against the Broncos while playing through his injury. Although he could have opted to sit out the Week 5 game, the matchup is significant for the undefeated 49ers.
