NHS Staff Accused of Antisemitic Remarks and Support for Hamas
An investigation has revealed multiple instances of inflammatory social media posts and comments by National Health Service employees.
An investigation by the Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) has uncovered dozens of social media posts and comments allegedly made by NHS workers, which the group describes as antisemitic and supportive of Hamas. The posts include claims that Zionists "control the world," that Hamas terrorists are "the resistance," and that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "needs to be dead."
Among those highlighted are a GP who reportedly shared a graphic depicting Netanyahu in a bloodied apron holding a knife over a sleeping child. An occupational therapist is accused of reposting a video that called the Bondi Beach mass shooting a "false flag" event. Another GP is reported to have described Israel as a "terrorist octopus."
The CAA's findings are detailed in a documentary released last month, "Malignant: Anti-Semitism in the NHS," which features accounts from British-Jewish patients and workers who allege experiencing abuse in UK hospitals. Previously, a nurse reported a colleague performing a Nazi salute, and a patient claimed his surgeon made an antisemitic remark mid-surgery.
Fatimah Mohamied, a midwife and a registered "cultural safety champion" at West Middlesex Hospital, is accused of responding with "Hell yeah!!!" to a post on October 7, 2023, that stated "Palestinians have a right to resist their occupation - we have a right to support them." In a now-deleted blog from January 2025, Mohamied reportedly wrote, "The problem here are the Zionist speakers you hold no qualm or shame to platform." She resigned from her role in March 2024 and was referred by her employer to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and the Metropolitan Police under the Prevent program. Both referrals were dismissed, and Mohamied has denied wrongdoing, bringing an ongoing claim against her former employer.
Occupational therapist Zaida Akhtar, also known as Zee Zidane, was nominated for a Values in Practice award by Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. However, the CAA uncovered posts including a video allegedly calling for violence against Netanyahu's son, Avner. Akhtar reportedly referred to Avner as the "son of the devil" and urged followers to "get your jutiya off," a Punjabi term for slipper or shoe, in an apparent call for a beating. Akhtar also reposted an image calling the US a supporter of the "Genocidal Zionist Settler Colonial Project in Palestine" accompanied by a graphic of a US delegate performing a Nazi salute. In December 2025, she reposted a conspiracy theory video labeling the Bondi Beach shooting a "false flag" event.
Dr. Abdelaal Ragheb Elfarra, a GP in Leeds, was documented in an April 2025 video stating, "Zionists control the media. Zionists control the world." He also reportedly said, "what Israel is doing in Gaza is not ethnic cleansing. It's extermination!" In October 2023, he posted the graphic image of Netanyahu. Elfarra has frequently compared Israel to Nazis, stating in an April 2024 post that "Zionists are the new Nazis of the last 100 years." Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust stated that it investigates all allegations of staff misconduct.
Manchester-based psychiatrist Dr. Ahmed Sewehli, a member of Healthworkers for Palestine, commented in November 2024, "Netanyahu should be dead." He also wrote in May 2025 that "Zionism is the ideology of terror, mass murder, displacement and depravity." Sewehli also suggested the term "antisemite" had been misused by Zionists, diluting its meaning.
Dr. Nadeem Crowe, an A&E doctor, stated in July 2025 that Israel is "a terrorist octopus." In another post, he described Zionism as "an insidious evil that IS controlling every single one of us, internationally." Crowe was suspended mid-shift in August 2024 following a colleague's complaint about his social media activity. He has denied supporting Hamas but stated at a tribunal that calling them "freedom fighters" would not be "entirely unacceptable."
The CAA stated that these findings indicate extremism is becoming "rife" in the medical profession and called for authorities to address the issue. A recent poll by the group found that one-third of British Jews who used the NHS since October 7, 2023, felt uncomfortable due to their identity, with over 40% hiding their Jewish identity.
In response, a Department for Health and Social Care spokesperson said the government commissioned a review to "root out the cancer of antisemitism and other forms of racism from our health service." An NHS England spokesperson added that any form of antisemitism or racism is "wholly unacceptable" and requires a zero-tolerance approach. The General Medical Council (GMC) stated that it investigates serious concerns that could risk patient safety or public confidence in doctors.
