NFLPA Demands Accountability After Referee's 'Unacceptable' Outburst at Player

The National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) is calling for disciplinary action against line judge Jeff Seeman after he was captured on live television appearing to repeatedly curse at Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride. The incident occurred during the Cardinals' recent loss to the New York Giants and has prompted an investigation by the league.

Video footage from the sideline showed Seeman directing expletives at McBride in the fourth quarter after the player seemingly objected to a non-call. McBride, after the exchange, appeared to acknowledge the cameras capturing the interaction.

JC Tretter, executive director of the NFLPA and a former offensive lineman, expressed his disapproval on social media, stating, "This kind of behavior from an official towards a player is unacceptable." He added, "Players are consistently held accountable when the roles are reversed. We expect the NFL to hold officials to the same standard."

CBS sideline reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala, who witnessed the interaction, noted her confusion about Seeman's reaction. She reported that McBride's initial plea was for a pass interference flag and that the player's strongest utterance was "You're ruining the game," without any profanity from his side.

Jeff Seeman, who has officiated NFL games since 2002, has a familial connection to the league's officiating department; his father, Jerry Seeman, also refereed in the NFL for 16 years before moving into a senior officiating role.

Fans reacted strongly on social media, with many criticizing the official's conduct. The NFL Referees Association did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The game continued to be challenging for the Cardinals after the sideline incident. Following a five-yard penalty on the subsequent play, Arizona punted, and the Giants extended their lead with a field goal. The Cardinals' final possession ended with an interception returned for a touchdown by the Giants as time expired.

McBride concluded the game with seven receptions for 31 yards on 12 targets. This season, he has accumulated 26 catches for 211 yards and two touchdowns.
