As the NFL season progresses into Week 2, teams are assessing player availability following Week 1 matchups. Updates include significant news for the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs, alongside insights from Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson.

Bears' Fourth-Quarter Strategy

Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson addressed the team's decision to continue scoring in the fourth quarter of their 59-37 victory over the Carolina Panthers. Despite holding a substantial lead, the Bears offense added two more scores in the final frame. Johnson explained that with the game still within reach, maintaining offensive pressure was crucial.

"Anytime you’re still within a couple of scores there in the fourth quarter, the game is still on, and so we needed that," Johnson stated. "I forget what time it was that we took the field for that last drive, and it was, ‘Guys, we want to finish the game with the ball,’ and then ended up getting one to pop through, and [D’Andre Swift] ended up scoring there at the end."

Johnson also cited Carolina's history of late-game comebacks from the previous season as a factor in the decision. "It’s a credit to Carolina more than anything. We went into the game with a lot of respect for how well they could play in the fourth quarter. They had a number of games a year ago where the quarterback and the offense found a way to come back and win from behind; that was just something that was on our mind going into the game. We knew we couldn’t let off the gas."

The Bears are set to face NFC North rival Minnesota Vikings in their home opener.

Injury Updates

In Baltimore, rookie wide receiver Ja'Kobi Lane is expected to undergo surgery for a fractured wrist, a procedure that could sideline him for approximately one month. According to a CBS Sports report, the Ravens have not ruled out placing him on injured reserve. Lane's absence adds to an already depleted receiving corps, which is also dealing with a hamstring injury to Zay Flowers.

Kansas City Chiefs rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane appears to have sustained a short-term shoulder injury during the team's Monday night win against the Denver Broncos. NFL Network reported that X-rays and CT scans came back clean, though Delane was still scheduled for an MRI. Delane made an early impact in his debut, recording an interception on his third snap, but landed awkwardly on his shoulder and did not return. The Chiefs will be hopeful for a quick return for their top corner as the secondary continues to gel.

The Chiefs are scheduled to host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night in Week 2.
