The NFL plans to place cornerback Terrion Arnold on the commissioner's exempt list once he signs with a team, according to NFL Network. This designation would make Arnold ineligible to practice or play, regardless of his team affiliation. Arnold, 23, is currently facing serious felony charges in Florida, including alleged involvement in a kidnapping and armed robbery plot that could result in a life sentence.
Despite the gravity of the accusations, Arnold has reportedly drawn interest from multiple NFL teams, with the Seattle Seahawks expected to sign him. Arnold was previously cut by the Detroit Lions on the same day a judge set his bail at $1 million. He has since cleared waivers after posting the bond and has been ordered to remain at his residence in Tallahassee, Florida, with exceptions for training, playing, or traveling with an NFL team. His passport has also been surrendered.
Prosecutors allege that Arnold orchestrated the kidnapping and robbery of three adult males in their late teens. The victims were reportedly lured to an apartment, where they were robbed, beaten, and held at gunpoint, sustaining visible injuries. State attorneys claim the incident was in retaliation for Arnold allegedly having $250,000 worth of personal items, including $100,000 in cash, an $80,000 necklace, and a cellphone, stolen from an Airbnb in Largo, Florida, in February. However, prosecutors stated there is no evidence linking the alleged victims to the February theft.
Arnold is specifically accused of orchestrating the alleged crime hours after reporting his own items missing to the Largo Police Department. His agent, Denise White of EAG Sports Management, has stated that Arnold maintains his innocence and categorically denies any involvement. White added that there is no credible evidence linking Arnold to the allegations and that the prosecution appears to be relying on testimony from convicted felons who may have incentives to shift blame.
Arnold was a first-round pick for the Detroit Lions in the 2024 NFL Draft. During his two seasons with the team, he played in 24 games, starting 22, and recorded one interception and 18 passes defended. He is now the first player from the 2024 first-round draft class to be released by their team.
