NFL Suspends Two Officials for Unprofessional Conduct

The NFL has suspended two on-field officials for instances of unprofessional conduct toward players. Line judge Jeff Seeman will sit out two games, and referee Adrian Hill will miss one game, the league announced.

Seeman's suspension stems from an incident during a game between the Arizona Cardinals and the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium, where he was captured on camera appearing to curse at Cardinals tight end Trey McBride. The exchange occurred during a game on October 4, 2026.

Seeman was reportedly heard saying, “F*** you. F*** you.” to McBride. The NFLPA's executive director, JC Tretter, publicly criticized the official's behavior, stating on X (formerly Twitter), “This kind of behavior from an official towards a player is unacceptable. Players are consistently held accountable when the roles are reversed. We expect the NFL to hold officials to the same standard.” Tretter shared a video of the incident, which had garnered millions of views.

According to CBS reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala, who was present at the game, the interaction began when McBride, while pleading his case for a pass interference flag, said “please” to Seeman. Kinkhabwala stated that McBride’s harshest comment was, “You’re ruining the game,” and that she did not hear any curses from the player.

Referee Adrian Hill received a one-game suspension for his conduct towards Minnesota Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson. In a separate incident, Wilson had inadvertently bumped into Hill, knocking him down. When Wilson offered to help the referee up, Hill reacted by getting into Wilson's face and gesturing for him to move away.

Ramon George, the NFL's vice president of officiating, issued the suspensions.
