Troy Aikman, who recently took on an informal consultant role with the Miami Dolphins, will face limitations on his access to NFL teams similar to those applied to Tom Brady. The NFL confirmed that Aikman must abide by restrictions that have been in place for Brady, a Fox Sports analyst and minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, for the past couple of years.

According to NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy, the parameters governing Brady will also apply to Aikman. This means both broadcasters can participate in production meetings virtually but will be prohibited from accessing practice facilities or observing practices. They are permitted to conduct interviews with team personnel and players outside of team facilities, potentially at team hotels in areas separate from other football staff. Additionally, they can broadcast games involving their own affiliated club.

Aikman joined ESPN's "Monday Night Football" broadcast team alongside Joe Buck in 2022. This offseason, he expanded his involvement with the Dolphins, assisting ownership in their search for a general manager and head coach, which ultimately led to the hiring of Jon-Eric Sullivan and Jeff Hafley.

Hafley acknowledged Aikman's contribution to the coaching search during his introductory press conference, and Sullivan stated that Aikman remains an active resource for the team, albeit with defined boundaries concerning roster construction. Aikman reportedly provides insights to ownership and club leadership, which are welcomed.

While Aikman's role with the Dolphins may not appear as formal as Brady's, the NFL is applying the same level of scrutiny and restriction to both individuals. The league has expressed satisfaction with Brady's management of his dual roles and adherence to guidelines, indicating no concerns about potential conflicts of interest.

"There have been no issues with Tom over the last two seasons. It is up to the coaches and clubs what they share with him," McCarthy stated. "If they share information they shouldn’t, then that’s on them."

In a recent interview on the "Dallas Dialogue with Dale" show, Aikman commented on the Dolphins' prospects for the upcoming season, suggesting they are unlikely to perform well due to salary cap issues. This statement reportedly contrasted with the messaging from Dolphins' new leadership, who aim to convey a focus on winning and have stated they are not prioritizing a tanking strategy. The Dolphins are not scheduled to play on Monday Night Football this season.
