NFL Leadership 'Furious' with Eagles Over Jalen Hurts Blood Clot Handling: Report
League officials reportedly concerned with the Eagles' lack of transparency regarding Jalen Hurts' medical situation.
NFL leadership is reportedly "furious" with the Philadelphia Eagles regarding the team's handling of quarterback Jalen Hurts' blood clot situation, according to a bombshell report from the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The decision by the Eagles' medical staff to allow Hurts to play despite the presence of a superficial blood clot has drawn significant scrutiny from across the league.
League Review Underway
Both the NFL and the NFL Players Association announced on Sunday that they are collaborating on a review of the matter. The NFLPA possesses the authority to escalate this joint inquiry into a fully independent investigation if it deems the current co-investigation to be obstructed or misled.
Sources cited by the Inquirer suggest that the league office and Commissioner Roger Goodell are particularly dismayed by the Eagles' lack of public transparency. To date, only head coach Nick Sirianni has addressed questions concerning Hurts' health.
During last week's owners meeting in New York, Goodell and NFL Chief Medical Officer Allen Sills fielded questions regarding Hurts. Sills defended the team's medical protocols, stating, "The notion that there are external factors or that any of our physicians would put a player in harm's way — that's nonsense." He emphasized that "incredible vigilance, there was conservative care, state-of-the-art imaging" were utilized and expressed confidence in the decision-making process.
Focus on Communication
The league's primary issue, according to the Inquirer's sources, does not lie with the timeline or treatment of Hurts' condition. Instead, the concern centers on the Eagles' failure to provide clear and direct answers concerning the quarterback's examinations, tests, and travel arrangements.
The Eagles are currently navigating a challenging period in their season, holding a 2-4 record. With Hurts among multiple players on injured reserve, the team is expected to start Tanner McKee at quarterback for the foreseeable future. Philadelphia is scheduled to play the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football this week.
