The National Football League is reportedly investigating Philadelphia Eagles head of security Dom DiSandro, also known as 'Big Dom,' following allegations of police tampering made by a former player. The claims suggest a team employee intervened to influence the handling of a car crash.
Emmanuel Acho, an ex-NFL player and television personality, detailed the allegations on his podcast. While he did not initially name DiSandro, his account has led to speculation that the Eagles' security chief was involved. According to Acho, after he was involved in a minor car accident, a team security official advised him to dismiss the arriving police officer and assured him that another officer would be sent to alter the report. Acho claims a second officer arrived and attributed fault to the other driver, who later allegedly received tickets and signed jerseys after realizing the player was with the Eagles.
Eagles reporter Derrick Gunn reported that the NFL's investigation into DiSandro is ongoing, stemming from Acho's August comments. DiSandro holds multiple roles within the Eagles organization, serving as senior adviser to general manager Howie Roseman, chief security officer, and executive for game day coaching operations.
DiSandro, 48, is responsible for overseeing all security matters for players, coaches, and executives, as well as security at the team's training complex, travel logistics, and education on the NFL's personal conduct policy. He has previously faced league sanctions. In 2023, the NFL fined the Eagles $100,000 and banned DiSandro from the sideline for the remainder of the regular season following a sideline altercation with San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw. The league also fined the Eagles $75,000 in a separate incident last year because DiSandro used his cellphone in a restricted area during a preseason game.
The report of the NFL's investigation comes after San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a significant car crash in July. Shanahan sustained a concussion, broken ribs, a broken nose, and required numerous stitches after colliding with another vehicle. The incident report and bodycam footage related to Shanahan's crash have not been publicly released, and initial police reports attributed blame to the other driver, though Shanahan later accepted responsibility.
