Eagle-eyed fans are speculating on the duration of New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart's recovery following a knee injury sustained during Monday night's game against the Los Angeles Rams. A viral clip circulating on social media has fueled these predictions, with fans claiming to have lip-read a coach informing Head Coach John Harbaugh that Dart would be out for "four to six weeks."
The injury occurred on the opening drive of the game when Dart was hit by Rams defenders Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart. Young made contact with Dart's right side, driving him into Stewart, who undercut the quarterback's legs, resulting in a hard fall.
Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the 23-year-old quarterback suffered a sprained MCL and would undergo further scans on Tuesday. Dart was able to walk off the field after the hit but was visibly frustrated and moving gingerly. He was replaced by Jameis Winston and later carted off for additional tests. ESPN commentator Joe Buck cited a report suggesting Dart attempted to return to the game but was prevented by the Giants.
The Giants also faced other injury concerns during the 28-6 loss. Defensive player Brian Burns was helped off the field with a suspected leg injury in the fourth quarter. Wide receiver Malik Nabers suffered a suspected shoulder injury while competing for a pass, though he was later seen on the bench and managed to return to the game.
The defeat marked a return to earth for the Giants after their Week 1 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. In other news from the game, Aaron Donald made his return to NFL action after a 32-month absence, recording three tackles as the Rams secured their first win of the season.
