NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed Thursday that the league is still investigating allegations against San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York, who was arrested last month on prostitution-related charges.
Speaking in Melbourne, Australia, prior to the 49ers' game against the Rams, Goodell acknowledged the matter is being examined under the NFL's personal conduct policy. "When we get it completed, we'll obviously make an announcement at that point in time," he told Netflix's Elle Duncan, according to Pro Football Talk.
York was taken into custody on August 23 in East Palestine, Ohio, after authorities alleged he attempted to pay a woman for sex. According to reports, York responded to an undercover prostitution advertisement and was arrested by police at a trailer park.
York initially faced charges of engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools. The following day, he reached an agreement with prosecutors, pleading no contest to the lesser charge of disorderly conduct and the criminal tools count. He received a one-day jail sentence, with credit for time served, and was ordered to pay $1,150 in fines.
York was not present for the 49ers' season-opening victory over the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne. Bay Area News Group reported that the team is anticipating a potential two-to-four-game suspension for York.
