Dominick Bianchi, 35, was found deceased in a wooded area near his East Greenbush, New York home, days after he disappeared last Tuesday. Police announced his body was discovered Sunday evening, concluding a search that began after he was last seen at his property around 10 a.m.
Officials have not disclosed the exact location of his discovery or the suspected cause of death. Bianchi, who had been married for only a few months, was known to be struggling with his mental health, according to his wife, Julianna Zyra. Loved ones also noted his diagnosis of type 1 diabetes, raising concerns he might have been without necessary insulin.
Zyra, 33, had issued a public plea for her husband's return before his body was found. "Whatever it is that's going on, there are so many people who care about you and want you to be OK," she said in a televised interview, addressing Bianchi directly. "I know you feel really alone, but there are people who want to help you. If you're seeing this, please, come home."
She added that Bianchi had been "struggling mentally for quite some time, and nobody really knows about it," and urged the public to refrain from speculation. "He's very sick, and he is not in the right headspace," she stated.
Bianchi's father-in-law, Joseph Zyra, expressed the family's grief and thanked the East Greenbush community for their support. "Dom was a husband, a son, a brother, a nephew, and a friend. He will be so missed by so many people," Joseph Zyra wrote in a statement to WTEN. He also extended gratitude to the law enforcement officers involved in the search.
Joseph Zyra also encouraged anyone experiencing mental health struggles to seek help, emphasizing that "you are never alone" and that "you matter."
The East Greenbush Police Department extended its "deepest condolences" to Bianchi's family and requested privacy during their period of mourning. Detective Sergeant Michael Guadagnino stated, "Our thoughts are with them as they navigate this incredibly difficult time."
