Newlywed Bodybuilder Dies After Collapsing on Stage at Competition

A newlywed bodybuilder has died after collapsing on stage during the finals of a competition in England, just one day before his 34th birthday. Mateusz Chmura, 33, was competing in his second event when he fell during his routine at Sunday’s PCA British Finals in Telford.

The Physical Culture Association announced his death with "deep sadness." Chmura was treated on stage following the incident before being airlifted to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The cause of his death has not yet been determined.

Chmura, who resides in Wakefield, had recently finished second in his first bodybuilding event two weeks prior. He leaves behind his wife, Patrycja Chmura, whom he married two months ago.

His widow has publicly addressed an unauthorized online fundraiser, stating that she has not authorized anyone to collect money on her behalf or for her family. She warned potential donors not to lose their money and expressed that she is enduring a painful time and lacks the strength to say more.

Chmura's death occurred shortly after the passing of two-time Mr. Olympia competitor Marianne von Gierke, 40, who died four days earlier. Von Gierke had finished 13th in the women's physique category at the recent Mr. Olympia competition, having placed 16th in the 2024 event.
