The 33-year-old collapsed during a competition at the Telford International Centre.
An amateur bodybuilder, Mateusz Chmura, 33, died after collapsing on stage during the PCA British Finals at the Telford International Centre in Shropshire on Sunday. Organizers confirmed that Mr. Chmura, from Wakefield, was competing in the Classic Bodybuilding Medium division when he collapsed in front of the audience.
Paramedics and the Midlands Air Ambulance were dispatched to the scene and provided treatment. Mr. Chmura was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Social media posts indicate that Mr. Chmura married his wife, Patrycja, in August. The PCA stated that the competition was paused while medical personnel attended to Mr. Chmura. Following his departure from the venue, a meeting was held with other competitors, and the decision was made to continue the event.
The organization issued a statement expressing its "deepest condolences go to his wife, family, friends and everyone who knew and loved him." The PCA also extended thanks to the on-site medical staff, medical professionals from the audience who assisted, the Midlands Air Ambulance, and hospital staff for their efforts. They also expressed gratitude to the venue staff, volunteers, and competitors for their support.
The PCA requested that the privacy of Mr. Chmura's loved ones be respected during this difficult time, acknowledging that the event was distressing for all in attendance.
