A mother in Bromsgrove, England, gave birth to her son in the parking lot of a KFC restaurant on Aug. 29, prompting the parents to nickname their newborn "Colonel Cody."

Katie Murphy, 33, and her partner Stephen Kirby, 32, had initially gone to the hospital that morning believing Murphy was in labor. They were sent home around 4 p.m. after being told it was too early to deliver.

However, Murphy's contractions continued, and by 9 p.m., the couple decided to return to the hospital. On the roughly 30-minute drive, Murphy realized the baby was coming.

While on the phone with emergency services, Kirby pulled into the parking lot of a KFC restaurant they frequented. Before the ambulance arrived, their son was born. Kirby caught the newborn, Cody, at 9:35 p.m. in the front seat of their car.

"It all happened so fast," Murphy said. "Thankfully, the ambulance was with us about five minutes later and took us to hospital." She added that Cody is healthy and happy despite his "abrupt entrance into the world in his dad’s car."

The family plans to celebrate Cody's first birthday at KFC and joked about him getting his first job there.

A KFC spokesperson stated, "We’re honored to have been the place of Cody’s birth and are sending bucket loads of love to the whole family, along with some KFC merch and vouchers to help them celebrate." The company added, "We can’t wait to welcome them back for a meal to mark the occasion."
