New York Times Tech Executive Fatally Shot at California Sports Complex
Police arrested the victim's elderly in-laws at the scene.
Jonathan McKinsey, 40, the head of engineering for games player experience at The New York Times, was fatally shot on Saturday afternoon at a sports complex in Dublin, California. Police responded to the scene at approximately 3 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls. Officers on patrol in the area discovered McKinsey with multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the Dublin Sports Grounds.
Shouyong Zhang, 77, and Shili Chen, 77, who are believed to be McKinsey's in-laws, were arrested at the scene. Witnesses reported that the suspects took turns firing at the victim before being apprehended by a police officer.
McKinsey had been with The New York Times since 2017, according to his LinkedIn profile. His role involved overseeing the engineering of game player experience, a critical aspect of the company's digital offerings.
