New York Times Games Engineering Director Fatally Shot in California; Parents-in-Law Arrested

Jonathan McKinsey, 40, an engineering director for New York Times Games, was found fatally shot on Saturday afternoon in a Dublin, California, parking lot. Police arrested his parents-in-law, Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, both 77, on suspicion of murder within minutes of the discovery.

McKinsey was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the Dublin Sports Grounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the City of Dublin. A Dublin Police Services sergeant on patrol noticed a man lying in the parking lot around 3:08 p.m. local time and stopped to investigate.

At the same time, dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting. Responding officers found McKinsey and, with the help of witnesses, quickly identified and detained the two suspects who remained at the scene. Zhang and Chen, who are McKinsey's parents-in-law, were arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

Police stated that there are no outstanding suspects and no ongoing threat to the public. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and have not yet released a motive.

A New York Times spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital that McKinsey had been employed by the company as director of engineering for New York Times Games since January 2023.
