New York Times Executive Fatally Shot by Elderly In-Laws in Parking Lot Attack
Couple allegedly fired multiple shots at son-in-law in brazen daylight incident.
A 40-year-old tech executive for The New York Times was fatally shot by his elderly in-laws in a parking lot in Dublin, California, on Saturday, according to police. Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, both 77, are accused of shooting their son-in-law, Jonathan McKinsey, in what authorities described as a brazen, broad daylight attack.
Witnesses reported seeing two masked individuals approach McKinsey in the parking lot and fire multiple shots at him. A passing police officer arrested the couple at the scene. McKinsey was transported to a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds but died from his injuries.
McKinsey had been the head of engineering for games player experience at The New York Times since 2023. Police have not yet disclosed a motive for the shooting.
Zhang and Chen have been booked into Alameda County’s Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of murder. They face charges including murder, felony conspiracy, child endangerment, and dangerously firing a gun.
