The New York Post depicted Donald Trump on the verge of being engulfed by a "BLUE TSUNAMI" on the cover of its Wednesday edition, illustrating a projected historic rebuke for the former president in the 2026 midterm elections.

"Trump suffers historic rebuke as Dems romp in midterms," the subheadline read in the Rupert Murdoch-owned tabloid, referencing projections that Democrats would regain control of both the House and Senate.

The cover artwork showed Trump with his mouth open and one hand raised, appearing to fend off a massive wave inspired by Katsushika Hokusai's famed woodblock print "Under the Wave off Kanagawa." The White House was visible in the background.

The Post's editorial board also issued a critical assessment in a piece titled "A terrible night for Republicans leaves challenges for BOTH parties." The board stated that "Trump’s touch was toxic" in the election, with candidates he endorsed performing poorly or losing. It also warned Democrats that their victories were largely based on opposition to Trump, and voters would not approve if they failed to present a forward-looking vision.

CNN's Brian Stelter shared the cover image on X, noting that Democrats were projected to take control of the House and were closing in on a Senate majority, flipping districts that Trump had previously won.
