New York Mother Dies Shielding Baby in Fall, Police Seek Suspect
Nathaly Ramirez was found critically injured alongside her 8-month-old daughter after a fall from a 15th-floor balcony; police have identified a suspect wanted in connection with the incident.
A New York City mother died and her infant daughter was critically injured after they were allegedly pushed from a 15th-floor balcony in the Bronx early Tuesday morning. Police have identified 31-year-old Angel Carrasco as a suspect sought in connection with the incident.
The New York Police Department responded to a 911 call around 3:38 a.m. outside an apartment building at 2550 Olinville Ave. Officers discovered Nathaly Ramirez, 23, and her 8-month-old daughter with injuries consistent with a fall from an elevated position. Further investigation determined that both individuals had been pushed from a balcony.
Ramirez was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her daughter was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Investigators believe Ramirez may have shielded her daughter from the impact of the fall.
Neighbors reported hearing Ramirez scream, "Please don’t do this!" moments before the fall, according to reports. Sources told FOX 5 that Ramirez and Carrasco, identified as her boyfriend or ex-boyfriend, had a history of domestic violence, and police had been called to the apartment multiple times. One neighbor stated they had heard yelling from the apartment on numerous occasions.
The NYPD released an image of Carrasco on Wednesday, describing him as wanted in connection with the incident. The department has not yet specified his relationship to Ramirez or announced any charges.
Police are asking anyone with information about Carrasco's whereabouts to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS or submit a tip online. The investigation is ongoing.
