Citi Field will host the annual "Battle of the Badges" charity baseball game on Wednesday, August 19, featuring a matchup between the New York Police Department (NYPD) and the Fire Department of New York (FDNY). The event, presented by Your Local Ford Stores, aims to celebrate and support the city's first responders.

The "Battle of the Badges" has become a long-standing tradition in New York, characterized by competitive camaraderie between the NYPD and FDNY. The FDNY currently leads the series with a 14-12 advantage. Last year's game concluded with a tie after being cut short by rain, adding anticipation for this year's contest to settle the score.

Fans attending the afternoon Mets vs. Padres game will be able to stay for the "Battle of the Badges" as it will be played as part of a single-admission doubleheader. The New York Mets are donating $5 from every ticket sold to benefit local FDNY and NYPD charities. The participants are former amateur baseball players, including those with high school, college, and minor league experience, who now serve as first responders.

Mets legend David Wright will serve as host for the third year. "The Battle of the Badges game gives each of us an opportunity to say thank you to the unsung heroes of our community," Wright stated. "While most of us would run away from trouble, these brave and heroic men and women run towards it. I can’t think of a more worthy cause than to come together to celebrate New York’s Finest and Bravest while raising money for their charities. Can’t wait to see you there!"

Your Local Ford Stores is a key partner for the event, with Chairperson John Billard noting, "We have been incredibly proud to support the ‘Battle of the Badges’ since its inception 5 years ago. Ford is deeply rooted in the communities we serve, and we feel a profound responsibility to give back to the courageous men and women of the NYPD and FDNY who put their lives on the line for us every single day. This event is a wonderful opportunity for all of New York to come together and show them our appreciation."
