New York Man Charged After Allegedly Fatally Striking Woman Following NJ Fender-Bender
Authorities state the incident occurred after a minor collision on Route 17 in Paramus, leading to a fatal hit-and-run.
Estuardo G. Rodriguez, 31, of Tarrytown, New York, has been charged with auto death after allegedly striking and killing Krisiann Reyes Rivera, 31, of the Bronx, following a minor traffic accident. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Monday on Route 17 in Paramus, New Jersey, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
Prosecutors stated that after the initial collision, Rivera exited her vehicle and approached Rodriguez’s 2024 Acura, which was towing a U-Haul trailer, and struck one of its windows. As Rivera returned to her car, investigators allege Rodriguez accelerated his vehicle, hitting Rivera and running her over with the trailer’s rear tires. Witnesses reported seeing Rodriguez attempt to flee the scene.
Several individuals pursued Rodriguez’s vehicle and managed to block it in traffic approximately half a mile from the incident. They then alerted local law enforcement, who took Rodriguez into custody. Rivera was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased.
Investigators found that Rodriguez had been driving under the influence of alcohol and possessed a suspended license. He has been booked into Bergen County Jail. Rodriguez is expected to appear in Bergen County Superior Court, though attorney information was not immediately available.
