New York Man Accused of Slashing Coworker's Throat During Ride Home
David Cruz Torres faces attempted murder charges after an alleged attack in Saratoga Springs.
A New York man has been accused of slashing his coworker's throat while she was driving him home from work, according to police. The incident occurred in Saratoga Springs.
Saratoga Springs police responded Friday to a report of a vehicle crash into Augie’s To-Go, an Italian restaurant. Upon arrival, officers found the driver of the vehicle with a serious laceration to her neck, which appeared unrelated to the crash itself.
The passenger in the car, identified as David Cruz Torres, 36, of Michoacán, Mexico, attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by officers. Detectives determined that Cruz Torres and the female victim were colleagues in Saratoga Springs.
Authorities reported that at the end of their shift, Cruz Torres asked the woman for a ride home. During the drive, he allegedly produced a knife and attacked the victim, cutting her throat. The woman managed to exit the moving vehicle and call for help.
The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital. Medical reports indicated a lacerated left carotid artery.
Cruz Torres has been charged with second-degree attempted murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The Department of Homeland Security was contacted regarding the case.
