New York Knicks Fall to 0-3 After Blowing 10-Point Lead to Shorthanded Magic
Jalen Brunson struggles as the defending champions suffer an ugly home loss.
The New York Knicks dropped to an 0-3 record on the young season after surrendering a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter to the Orlando Magic, losing 111-102 on Sunday night.
Jalen Brunson, the team's star guard, had another difficult outing, finishing 12-for-28 from the field, including 1-for-7 from three-point range and 3-for-6 from the free-throw line. He also committed a crucial turnover late in the game.
The Knicks became the first defending champions since the 2011 Dallas Mavericks to start the season with three consecutive losses.
Orlando's Franz Wagner was a key factor in the Magic's comeback, scoring 23 points, with most of his production coming in the final quarter. Wagner narrowly missed a triple-double, finishing one assist shy.
Mikal Bridges also continued his slow start to the season, managing only six points and posting a team-worst plus-minus of -23 in his 35 minutes on the court.
The Magic, who entered the game also seeking their first win at 0-2, were without their leading scorer, Paolo Banchero, who was sidelined with an ankle sprain.
Despite being shorthanded, Orlando mounted a significant comeback. The Knicks initially started strong, scoring the first 12 points of the game and holding the Magic scoreless for nearly five minutes. However, the momentum shifted, culminating in a somber moment when Magic guard Jalen Suggs appeared to sustain a serious knee injury late in the game.
In another notable decision, head coach Mike Brown benched reserve center Andre Drummond in the second half following a defensive lapse. James Wiseman replaced Drummond but struggled offensively, missing all five of his field goal attempts.
