New York Father's Last Words Captured on 911 Call as Son Allegedly Stabs Him
Edward Brown, 69, was found dead after his son, Sage Arias-Brown, allegedly attacked him with a knife.
A 69-year-old New York man, Edward Brown, was found dead in his Mastic apartment on September 7, his final moments captured in a harrowing 911 call where he pleaded for help as his son allegedly attacked him.
According to investigators, Sage Arias-Brown, 33, entered his father's apartment around 12:30 a.m. on September 7. A neighbor reportedly heard a loud noise, followed by Edward Brown screaming, "I’m being murdered. What are you doing to me, Sage?"
Officials state that Sage Arias-Brown was seen leaving his father's apartment several minutes after the 911 call was placed. Police apprehended the suspect approximately half a mile from the scene.
Edward Brown was discovered unresponsive at his apartment and pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators allege that Sage Arias-Brown stabbed his father approximately 40 times in the torso, chest, and neck.
Sage Arias-Brown was arraigned on Thursday on one count of murder in the second degree. Suffolk County District Attorney Tierney stated, "This defendant is accused of viciously taking the life of his 69-year-old father as the victim desperately called the police for help."
He added, "The facts in this case are heartbreaking. This indictment is an important step towards holding the defendant accountable for the brutal violence he allegedly inflicted on his own parent." If convicted, Sage Arias-Brown faces 25 years to life in prison and is scheduled to appear in court again on October 21.
Earlier in September, Edward Brown posted on Facebook about the fragility of life, writing, "It is in a blink of the eye that life can change. A twisted bowel, a broken hip. Stroke, clots, cancer, diabetes...so many reasons. Only God knows our toe tag... Life is too short."
He urged people to care for one another and share his message. Loved ones have since posted tributes on his Facebook page, remembering him as a "happy and positive and boisterous" person, a "mentor," and a "kindest, most gentle soul."
