New York Father Arrested for Allegedly Pushing Girlfriend and Baby Off Balcony
Angel Carrasco faces charges after a woman died and their infant daughter was critically injured in a fall from a Bronx apartment.
Angel Carrasco, 31, was arrested Wednesday by U.S. Marshals and NYPD officers in connection with a fatal fall from a 15th-floor balcony in the Bronx. His estranged girlfriend, Nathaly Ramirez, 23, died after falling early Tuesday, while their eight-month-old daughter, also named Angel, survived but remains in critical condition.
Authorities allege that Carrasco pushed Ramirez from the balcony while she was holding their infant daughter. Ramirez and the baby were found seriously injured and were transported to a hospital, where doctors pronounced Ramirez dead. The infant daughter survived the fall.
Carrasco fled the scene after the alleged incident, leaving behind a bouquet of flowers he had brought for Ramirez. He remained at large until his arrest on Wednesday, the same day the NYPD released a wanted poster that included an image appearing to show him with a large kitchen knife.
"This horrific tragedy weighs heavily on every team member who worked this case," said U.S. Marshal Ricky J. Patel. "We owed it to the brave mother who gave her life to save her child from a vicious individual." He added, "While nothing can undo this terrible loss, taking this suspect off the street ensures he will answer for his alleged heinous actions."
The arrest has drawn renewed attention to Carrasco's alleged history of violence involving Ramirez. According to law enforcement sources, the couple had been involved in two domestic incidents earlier this year. On January 5, Carrasco was accused of slapping Ramirez after she confronted him about communicating with an ex-girlfriend. Three days later, he was arrested again for allegedly breaking into Ramirez's apartment and waiting for her inside, leading to a burglary charge. That case was later sealed.
Sources also indicated that Carrasco had allegedly sent threatening text messages to another former girlfriend. His record includes at least two other arrests dating back to 2016 for alleged false impersonation and marijuana possession.
Residents of the 18-story building at 2550 Olinville Avenue reported hearing a man's voice shouting "Jump!" followed by a thud and then the sound of a woman crying "No please, no!" before the fall occurred. A diaper and a baby onesie were found near the scene.
By Wednesday, a makeshift memorial with candles, flowers, and a photograph of Ramirez had been established outside the building. Friends remembered Ramirez as a devoted mother whose focus was her baby, suggesting that her final instinct was to protect her daughter.
