New York City is auctioning one of 30 authentic 'Champions Way' street signs that were displayed on Broadway during the ticker-tape parade celebrating the New York Knicks' 2026 championship victory. The sign represents a piece of the team's first championship in 53 years.
The auction, hosted on the City's online surplus auction website, began on July 29 with an opening bid of $100. As of July 30, bids had reached $7,100, with 10 individuals participating. The auction is set to conclude on August 12 at 8 p.m. ET.
According to Yume Kitasei, Commissioner of the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS), the commemorative signs capture the excitement and pride of the championship celebration. "Through DCAS’ surplus property auctions, we’re thrilled to give fans the rare opportunity to own an authentic piece of New York City and Knicks history," Kitasei stated in a press release.
The handcrafted sign, made of aluminum and measuring 36 inches by nine inches, was created by the NYC Department of Transportation's Sign Shop in Maspeth, Queens. This shop produces over 70,000 street signs annually.
The Knicks' championship parade on June 18 celebrated the team's first title in over five decades. The event drew an estimated two million spectators to Lower Manhattan, filling the streets with confetti. NYC DOT Commissioner Mike Flynn noted that the signs added an "extra touch of civic pride" to the Canyon of Heroes during the historic day.
Proceeds from the auction will benefit New York City. This event follows a previous contest where five New Yorkers won Knicks-themed trash cans, an initiative that saw over 125,000 applications.
