A year after the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, a new collection of his writings aims to honor his legacy and provide a deeper understanding of his views.
Christy Edwards, a former Turning Point USA board member and author of the book "Charlie Kirk: In His Own Words" (Post Hill Press), stated that the collection was compiled from Kirk's writings over more than a decade. The book covers topics such as faith, marriage, fatherhood, courage, and gratitude.
"He left more than a decade of writings," Edwards wrote. "He was so much more than a debater. He wrote about faith. Marriage. Fatherhood. Courage. Gratitude. He said things off-camera that are just as vital as his campus videos."
Edwards met Kirk in the summer of 2016. According to Edwards, Kirk, who was 22 at the time, had already cultivated relationships with influential donors. Kirk's public profile grew later with his debates on college campuses. The author described Kirk as someone who loved his country and Donald Trump, and who actively worked to connect conservatives and Christians.
Following his meeting and marriage to Erika, Kirk's faith deepened, according to Edwards. "I watched a boy who called himself a patriot and a Christian become a man of God on fire, leading a nation with a calm that came from knowing who he belonged to," Edwards stated. Kirk died at the age of 31.
Edwards also founded a nonprofit organization called Carry the Torch in Kirk's memory. All proceeds from the book sales will be directed to this organization to support young individuals.
Edwards reflected on the loss of Kirk's future contributions, stating, "I will never know what Charlie would have said about the midterms, or 2028, or the bill a governor signed last week. I cannot text him an article and ask."
The book's publication also serves as a call to action for conservatives. Edwards encouraged readers to "Read him. Have the real conversations. Show up. Speak plainly when it costs something. Build families with intention. Carry the torch, and live like Charlie."
The collection aims to encourage a continuation of Kirk's principles and approach to conservative activism, emphasizing intentional living and public discourse.
