New Ransom Note Emerges in Nancy Guthrie Abduction Case
Pima County Sheriff's Department investigating potential third note nearly eight months after Today Show host's mother vanished.
Investigators are examining a potential new ransom note related to the abduction of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie. The Pima County Sheriff's Department announced Monday evening that the Guthrie Task Force, a joint effort with the FBI, has been made aware of the note and is assessing its credibility.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was abducted from her Tucson-area home on February 1. The case gained national attention, and police released two ransom notes in July. One note demanded $4 million, while a second indicated that the 84-year-old had died.
The statement from the Pima County Sheriff's Department did not specify the contents of the newly surfaced note or confirm its authenticity. The department indicated it is also aware of social media discussions surrounding the note and is looking into that information further.
The investigation into Guthrie's disappearance has been ongoing since February, with the FBI assisting local law enforcement.
