New Press Secretary Katie Zacharia Makes Debut as Trump Departs for Ohio Rally
Zacharia observed President Trump's departure on her first day, with Jake Paul and Jon Gruden joining the president for a rally.
White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia began her tenure on Monday, observing President Trump's departure for a rally in Ohio. Zacharia was present on the South Lawn as Trump addressed reporters before boarding Marine One for his trip to Youngstown, Ohio.
Zacharia is not accompanying the president on this trip and is scheduled to hold her first official press briefing on Tuesday. The president's rally in Ohio is part of his efforts to support Republican candidates in the upcoming midterm elections.
Joining President Trump on Marine One were social media personality Jake Paul and former NFL head coach Jon Gruden. Both are expected to attend the rally in Ohio. Paul, who was seen wearing a red "America is Back" hat, has previously appeared with Trump at a Kentucky event. Trump had predicted at that event that Paul would run for political office in the future.
Gruden, a native of Ohio and a former head coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Las Vegas Raiders, has also been active in supporting Republican candidates in the state. He previously spoke at a rally for Republican Senate candidate Jon Husted in Ohio, which Trump also attended.
Also expected to be in attendance or participate in events in Ohio are Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) and Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. Husted is in a competitive race against former Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), while Ramaswamy is competing against Amy Acton for the gubernatorial nomination. Gruden, a college teammate of Husted's at the University of Dayton, has endorsed Husted.
