New Poll Shows GOP Rep. Mike Lawler Leading Democrat Cait Conley in Key NY House Race

Republican Rep. Mike Lawler has taken a three-point lead over his Democratic opponent, Cait Conley, in New York's 17th Congressional District, according to new internal polling data.

The Lawler campaign's poll, which surveyed 400 likely voters between September 28 and 30, shows the incumbent congressman with 50% of the vote compared to Conley's 47%. The poll, conducted by McLaughlin & Associates, has a margin of error of 4.9%, suggesting the race remains highly competitive.

This internal poll emerges just a day after a separate poll from PIX 11 and Emerson College indicated Conley holding a slim two-point lead. That survey was conducted from September 27 to 29.

The Lawler campaign's internal data suggests the Republican holds a significant advantage among his own party, leading 92% to 6% among Republicans. He also leads among independents, with 52% to Conley's 40%. The poll indicates that Lawler is also drawing support from Democrats, securing 20% of their vote compared to Conley's 79%.

The 17th Congressional District, which encompasses parts of Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, and Dutchess Counties, was carried by Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election and is considered a key target for Democrats in the upcoming midterm elections.

The Lawler campaign's polling also revealed that Republican gubernatorial nominee Bruce Blakeman is leading Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul 51% to 47% within the district. Blakeman reportedly holds a larger lead among independents in the district, 55% to Hochul's 37%.
