New Photo Released in Decades-Old New Hampshire Murder Case

Authorities in New Hampshire have released a new photograph of Tammy Little, who was murdered in 1982, in a renewed effort to solve the cold case that has baffled investigators for over 40 years. Little was 20 years old at the time of her death.

Little was last seen alive in the early hours of Saturday, October 16, 1982. Three days later, her body was discovered in her apartment at 315 Maplewood Avenue in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Law enforcement determined that Little had suffered severe head injuries, and her death was ruled a homicide. The circumstances surrounding her killing remain unresolved.

The New Hampshire Cold Case Unit released the photograph in hopes that it will prompt someone to come forward with information. Investigators are specifically appealing to individuals who lived, worked, or studied in the Portsmouth area in October 1982. They are interested in hearing from anyone who attended Portsmouth Beauty School with Little, former neighbors, local residents, or those who frequented the Maplewood Avenue neighborhood.

Detectives are also seeking information from anyone who may have seen or spoken with Little between the early morning hours of October 16 and the discovery of her body. Senior Assistant Attorney General R. Christopher Knowles, chief of New Hampshire’s Cold Case Unit, stated that investigators are committed to finding answers for Little’s loved ones.

"No matter how much time has passed, we believe there are people who hold information critical to solving this case," Knowles said. The investigation is active and being conducted by the New Hampshire Cold Case Unit in conjunction with the Portsmouth Police Department.

In a statement released through New Hampshire law enforcement, Little's family described her as a joyful person and a friend to many, always offering support and comfort. They expressed that her absence is still deeply felt and that they think of her every day. "She was the most joyful person. She was everyone’s friend," the family said. "Today, her light lives on with me; she is my guardian angel and lives within my heart."

For Little’s family, the search for answers has endured across generations, with the pain of losing her compounded by the mystery surrounding her final hours

Little was a student at Portsmouth Beauty School when she was last seen alive in the early hours of Saturday, October 16, 1982. Three days later, on October 19, her body was discovered inside her apartment at 315 Maplewood Avenue in Portsmouth, New Hampshire
