Danette Colbert, identified as the 'Bourbon Street Hustler,' has been sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 75 years for her role in the death of NFL reporter Adan Manzano. The conviction follows a case where surveillance video, obtained by the Daily Mail, showed Colbert leading Manzano to his hotel shortly before he was found unresponsive.
Manzano, a 27-year-old reporter and television anchor for Telemundo in Kansas City, died in New Orleans in the lead-up to Super Bowl LIX. Surveillance footage captured Colbert and Manzano entering the Comfort Inn hotel in Kenner, Louisiana, at 3:46 a.m. on February 5, 2025. Manzano was discovered unresponsive approximately 12 hours later when colleagues initiated a welfare check after he missed a scheduled meeting.
Colbert was seen leaving the hotel room for the last time at 5:21 a.m. on the day Manzano was found. A jury found the 49-year-old guilty of negligent homicide and racketeering. The Jefferson Parish District Attorney's office stated that a judge imposed a life sentence, to be served consecutively to a 50-year sentence for racketeering and 25 years for unrelated crimes.
Colbert and Rickey White were initially charged with manslaughter in Manzano's death. However, the jury convicted Colbert of the lesser charge of negligent homicide, while White was acquitted of manslaughter. Both were convicted of racketeering, with the district attorney characterizing them as "a prostitute and her pimp." Prosecutors alleged a long-standing scheme where Colbert and other prostitutes targeted tourists in New Orleans, luring them to hotel rooms and stealing their valuables after administering sedatives.
An autopsy revealed Manzano died from a combination of alcohol, benzodiazepines, and positional asphyxia, having suffocated with his face in a pillow. Following Manzano's death, Colbert reportedly used one of his stolen credit cards at a convenience store to purchase a charger for his cell phone. She is also alleged to have recorded videos, including footage from Manzano's hotel room, reportedly marveling at the Super Bowl-related information stored on his phone.
Manzano's death occurred less than a year after his wife, Ashleigh Boyd, died in a car accident in 2024. Their young daughter is now orphaned.
