Jana Armstrong, a 30-year-old support care worker, will be buried Friday, nearly a month after her disappearance and alleged murder. Police allege Dharminder Singh, 49, the father of her four-month-old son, Deshal, strangled her and dumped her body in bushland.
Ms. Armstrong will be interred in Millmerran, Queensland, alongside her parents, Ronald and Robyn Armstrong, who both died at young ages. Her sister, Faith Isaacs, 26, who is now caring for Deshal, is overseeing the funeral arrangements. Ms. Isaacs told the Daily Mail that Ms. Armstrong had taken the lead in organizing the funerals for their parents, who passed away in 2019 and 2021 respectively. Ronald Armstrong died of a heart attack at 56, and Robyn Armstrong died at 51.
Ms. Armstrong was reported missing on July 8 when her vehicle was found abandoned near her home with an unlocked car seat in the back. Deshal was found unharmed at Ms. Armstrong's unit with Mr. Singh. Her body was discovered by pig hunters in bushland off a rural road.
Mr. Singh, a taxi driver, was subsequently charged with domestic violence murder. His lawyer has indicated he will contest the charge. Sources within the local disabled community suggested Ms. Armstrong met Mr. Singh while using his maxi taxi service to transport her mother and other clients. Ms. Isaacs stated that Mr. Singh had courted her sister, who was seeking love after a marriage breakdown.
This is not the first tragedy the Armstrong family has faced recently. In May, Ms. Isaacs and her husband welcomed a daughter who died due to birth complications. Ms. Armstrong had assisted her sister in planning that infant's funeral.
Ms. Isaacs and Ms. Armstrong had made a pact that if one died, the other would help raise her son, acknowledging the unpredictable nature of life. This pledge was made around the funeral of Ms. Isaacs' daughter on June 8.
Ms. Isaacs was among the last to see her sister alive on July 7. She received a text message from Ms. Armstrong later that day stating she was going to Brisbane, which Ms. Isaacs found unusual as her sister had no known friends in the city. Ms. Isaacs now believes her sister did not send that text.
The funeral service will be livestreamed by Burstows Funeral Care. A funeral notice described Ms. Armstrong as 'tragically taken'.
