New Mexico has been identified as the most sexually adventurous state in the U.S., according to a new study released by Say It With A Condom. The study, which created a "Kink Index" for each state, combined factors such as Google searches for sexual content, visits to adult stores, and reported weekly sexual frequency.
New Mexico secured the top spot with a Kink Score of 91.6. This was attributed to a high volume of racy Google searches, with 10,585 per 1,000 residents, and an average of 6.5 monthly visits to adult stores per million people. The state's residents also reported engaging in sexual activity an average of 2.06 times per week, with stated preferences including BDSM, swinging, and outdoor sexual encounters.
Oregon followed in second place with a score of 85.93, driven by the nation's highest rate of adult store visits at 11.3 per million adults. Arkansas ranked third with a score of 83.67, influenced by a combination of online curiosity and in-person sexual activity. Other states rounding out the top 10 include Vermont, North Dakota, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Washington, Rhode Island, and Alaska. Alaska reported the highest average sexual frequency at 2.81 times per week, while Vermont and North Dakota showed a significant appetite for kink-related Google searches.
Conversely, Texas was found to be the most conventional state, earning a score of 22.74. Despite its reputation, the survey indicated that Texans are privately interested in orgies. Other states at the bottom of the list include Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, and Mississippi.
Major states like California and Florida did not rank highly, with California at 40th (34.16) and Florida at 49th (23.35). New York placed 21st with a score of 52.05, reporting 1.39 sexual encounters per week, slightly above the national average of 1.08. New Jersey finished 43rd with a score of 32.74.
Benjamin Sherman, CEO of Say It With A Condom, commented on the study's findings, noting the widespread curiosity about sex and kink across the U.S. He emphasized the importance of consent, communication, and protection in sexual exploration.
