A New Jersey mother and special education teacher was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Friday for raping a 15-year-old student with whom she had become "obsessed." Allison Havemann-Niedrach, 45, a former teacher at Freehold Intermediate School, sobbed as the victim delivered an emotional statement in court before State Superior Court Judge Jill G. O’Malley handed down the sentence.

The student, whose identity has not been released, described his months-long relationship with Havemann-Niedrach as "like a nightmare" and expressed a wish that no one else endure such an experience. He told the court that for two to three years, he believed the abuse was his fault. The victim stated he forgave the former educator, prompting Havemann-Niedrach to cry.

Prosecutors stated that Havemann-Niedrach was "obsessed" with the student. In her own statement, Havemann-Niedrach apologized profusely for her actions, saying she was moved by his forgiveness.

Havemann-Niedrach pleaded guilty in January to sexually assaulting the eighth-grade student over a six-month period in 2024. The investigation into the Jackson Township woman began when the school's vice principal reported concerns about her relationship with the teen. Another teacher had allegedly observed Havemann-Niedrach touching the student's neck and back, his leg, and flirting with him.

The student's mother also alerted investigators after her daughter saw the student in the teacher's car and noticed he was frequently on his phone late at night. Havemann-Niedrach reportedly sent the teen approximately 25,000 messages. The student eventually admitted to police that he had engaged in sexual activity with Havemann-Niedrach after his mother took him to the station.

Judge O’Malley forcefully addressed Havemann-Niedrach, stating, "You are his trauma. You ruined him." The court was told that the abuse led the student to contemplate suicide before he disclosed the relationship to his mother.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, Havemann-Niedrach must serve at least 85% of her sentence. She is also required to register as a sex offender, and her teaching certifications have been revoked. Judge O’Malley issued a permanent order prohibiting Havemann-Niedrach from contacting the victim or his family.
