A psychotherapist and new mother has been identified as the victim of a fatal stabbing that occurred in her New Jersey home on June 6. Brooke Hanlon, 35, was found deceased inside her residence in Chester, a suburb approximately 40 miles west of New York City.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the home around 4:30 p.m. following a report of a woman in cardiac arrest. According to dispatch audio, a caller indicated the woman had a significant laceration. Despite efforts to perform CPR, Hanlon was pronounced dead at the scene. The Morris County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled her death a homicide resulting from multiple sharp force injuries.

Investigators have not yet made any arrests in connection with the death. The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the investigation is active and ongoing, and declined to release further details to protect its integrity.

At the time of her death, Hanlon worked as a psychotherapist at LifeStance, a behavioral health center offering in-person and telehealth services. Her LinkedIn profile indicated she had experience working with children, adolescents, and families requiring counseling and support.

Hanlon and her husband, James, had recently welcomed a new baby. A photo posted on Facebook in December 2025 showed the couple with their newborn in front of a Christmas tree.
