Two individuals have been indicted on a series of charges, including kidnapping and human trafficking, for their alleged involvement in a sex trafficking operation in New Jersey.

Tamier Brown-Miller, of Philadelphia, and Dezeree Smith, of Collingswood, N.J., were charged last week by the New Jersey Attorney General's Office. The indictment includes charges of kidnapping, human trafficking, racketeering, and promoting prostitution. Authorities allege that the pair operated a commercial sex trafficking ring between July and October 2025, moving victims through Cherry Hill, Atlantic City, Gloucester City, and Philadelphia. One of the victims was identified as a minor.

Prosecutors stated that one adult victim initially met Brown-Miller, known as "Mier," and Smith through social media and considered them friends. This relationship allegedly shifted during a party in Philadelphia, where Brown-Miller is accused of threatening to harm the victim's family if she did not comply with his demands. Approximately two years later, according to the indictment, Brown-Miller kidnapped the woman.

The victim reported that she was standing outside a convenience store near Brown-Miller's Philadelphia residence when a vehicle pulled up. Brown-Miller was in the passenger seat, and another man was driving. Fearing Brown-Miller, who prosecutors claim carried a handgun and had reiterated threats against her family, the woman entered the car. She was reportedly taken to a Philadelphia hotel and forced into commercial sex for money over two days before being transported to a motel in Gloucester City, New Jersey.

Brown-Miller allegedly confiscated the victim's phone and posted advertisements for commercial sex online. Prosecutors say Smith later returned the woman's phone but warned her against attempting to leave, stating Brown-Miller would kill her if she tried.

The woman took the opportunity to escape by secretly arranging a rideshare. As she attempted to flee, prosecutors allege Smith attacked her, leading to a struggle that extended into the motel's common areas. Other residents intervened and contacted law enforcement.

Upon arrival, officers found the woman, who was subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment. Investigators also reported recovering methamphetamine and four cellphones from the scene.

Brown-Miller faces 22 criminal charges, while Smith is indicted on 19 charges. The alleged operation involved exploiting multiple victims, including a minor, over a three-month period.
