Englewood Health said Monday it has accepted the resignation of a physician after a nurse alleged he celebrated the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, and that the nurse will be allowed to continue working her scheduled shifts.

The hospital said it "diligently investigated" an incident on Sept. 10 involving a doctor and a nurse in a patient care area. A spokesperson told Fox News Digital the hospital has "[a]ccepted the physician’s resignation, and the nurse is expected to work her scheduled shifts." The statement added the nurse was "never fired; was never told she would be fired by Englewood Hospital; and will not miss any pay as part of our review of this matter." The findings of the hospital's investigation were not disclosed.

The nurse, Lexi Kuenzle, 33, sued Englewood Health and Dr. Matthew Jung, alleging Jung "cheered and celebrated" Kirk's assassination in comments made in front of patients and hospital staff and that she was suspended after reporting him. Kuenzle appeared Monday on Fox & Friends with attorney John-Paul Deol of the Dhillon Law Group, saying she did not know Jung before the Sept. 10 interaction.

Kuenzle told the program that Jung was "standing there, celebrating the death of Charlie Kirk, saying how 'he deserved it,' he hated Charlie Kirk and 'he had it coming to him.'" She said she is "a big fan of Charlie Kirk." Fox News Digital reached out to Kuenzle and Deol for comment after the hospital's announcement but did not immediately receive a response.

Englewood Health said in its statement that it is "committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for all." The hospital did not provide details about any disciplinary process or the reasons Jung offered for his resignation. The lawsuit filed by Kuenzle seeks relief related to her suspension and the alleged retaliation she described.

Vigil for Charlie Kirk in Washington, D.C.

The episode comes amid heightened national attention following Kirk's killing, which prompted public vigils and debate. The allegations involve conduct in a patient care area, raising questions about professional standards and workplace safety in a clinical setting. Englewood Health did not say whether it notified state medical or licensing authorities.

The hospital's announcement resolves the immediate staffing status at the facility: the physician has resigned and the nurse is expected to continue her shifts without loss of pay, according to the statement. Legal proceedings related to Kuenzle's lawsuit were ongoing as of the hospital's update.
