A New Jersey couple has lost their only two children following a boating accident on Sunday night. Mya, 9, and Sigmund, 7, were on a boat trip with their grandparents in Barnegat Bay, off Berkeley Township, when the vessel crashed into a channel marker.

The impact sent the children into the water. Their grandfather, Steven Schneider, 63, who was operating the 30-foot boat, and their grandmother, Laurie Schneider, discovered the children unresponsive. Despite lifesaving measures, they were pronounced dead at the scene.

Mya and Sigmund Golabek were remembered by their family as "sweet" and "active" children. Mya's obituary described her as a "sweet, fun-loving girl" with a competitive spirit who enjoyed softball and basketball. Sigmund, also known as "Siggy," was characterized as a "shy, but adventurous little boy with a big imagination" who loved basketball, baseball, and swimming.
