New Hampshire Libertarian Party Under Fire for Violent Rhetoric
The state party's social media posts advocating for the assassination of Democrats have drawn widespread condemnation and led to its decertification by the national organization.
The Libertarian Party of New Hampshire has drawn severe criticism for social media posts that stated the party supports "the assassination of basically every elected Democrat in New Hampshire." The post also suggested that those unwilling to take such action should "vote GOP."
New Hampshire Governor Kelly Ayotte, a Republican, called the rhetoric "irresponsible and dangerous" and stated that "violent rhetoric has no place in our politics." She further urged that "threats like this should be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
The Libertarian Party of New Hampshire defended its statement, telling CBS Burlington affiliate WCAX that the group "believes that New Hampshire is healthier and freer when anyone who would enact an income tax fears for their life."
This is not the first instance of the New Hampshire party making controversial statements regarding political violence. In September 2024, the group posted that "anyone who murders Kamala Harris would be an American hero." Earlier in 2026, it stated that it was "perfectly permissible to kill" a former politician who had proposed a state income tax.
The Libertarian Party of New Hampshire is not affiliated with the National Libertarian Party. The national organization decertified the New Hampshire group in May, citing its repeated undermining of candidates and the espousal of "numerous anti-libertarian positions."
