New footage has confirmed that Nolan Wells, a teenager who died following a Fourth of July trip, was not on a boat as it was being towed away from Horn Island, according to reports.
The video and photos, obtained by The Officer Tatum Show, appear to capture seven of Wells' friends on a Triton boat as it was being towed by another vessel. Wells, who was found dead two days after the incident, is not seen in the footage.
Wells' friends had reportedly told him to get on the boat to leave the island with them. However, he allegedly chose to remain on Horn Island with Katie McCormack, 19. McCormack's sister, Gracie, has disputed this account, stating that McCormack believed Wells would have boated back to the mainland with his friends.
Wells, an Ocean Springs teen, was discovered deceased by a National Park Service ranger on July 6. He was found wearing only swim shorts in an area that the United Cajun Navy described as having powerful rip currents.
The circumstances surrounding Wells' disappearance and death are under investigation.
